The Vilensky splint is a customizable abduction orthosis designed to gently separate a child's legs. It features a telescoping bar with a central screw mechanism and adjustable cuffs secured with laces. The cuffs are positioned on the lower third of the legs, allowing for precise adjustment of limb separation to address developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and other conditions. This splint can be used independently or in conjunction with other orthoses (such as the Mirzoeva or Koshlya splints) as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. The actual color of the splint may vary from the image shown.
The Vilensky splint is indicated for infants and young children (2 weeks to 1 year old) with:
The Vilensky splint gently abducts the legs, promoting proper hip development without restricting joint movement. Unlike restrictive bandages or corsets, it allows for natural leg movement, supporting healthy development.
The Vilensky splint should remain on the child at all times, except during bathing.
To determine the correct size, measure the circumference of the lower third of the child's leg using a measuring tape. The tape should fit snugly but not constrict the skin. Three sizes are available:
