Enhanced Description
This 50-pack of tactical decompression needles provides a critical intervention for treating tension pneumothorax, a life-threatening condition where air builds up in the pleural space, collapsing the lung. They are suitable for treating patients of all ages and body types.

Symptoms of Pneumothorax
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Sharp, one-sided chest pain
- Tracheal deviation
- Distended jugular veins
- Subcutaneous emphysema (air trapped under the skin of the chest wall)
Instructions for Use
- Identify Insertion Site: Locate the intercostal space between the second and third ribs (approximately 8-10 centimeters below the clavicle, as shown in the image).
- Sterilize the Area: Disinfect the insertion site and surrounding area.
- Prepare the Needle: Open the protective cap and remove the needle from its case.
- Position the Needle: Place the needle tip against the skin, directly above the upper border of the third rib.
- Align the Needle: Align the needle between the rib and clavicle, creating a 90-degree angle between the needle and the chest wall.
- Insert the Needle: Gently and smoothly insert the needle until the orange cap is reached, ensuring the needle is not inserted medially to the nipple line or toward the heart.
- Remove the Needle: Remove the needle from the catheter, leaving the catheter in place.
- Secure the Catheter: Secure the catheter.
Important Note: This decompression needle should be used in conjunction with an occlusive dressing (with or without a valve). Such dressings are readily available.
