How to Put On Your Compression Stockings:
By Hand:
- It’s best to put on the stockings in the morning. Ensure your nails are trimmed and rings are removed.
- Sit on a bed or chair with your leg bent at the knee.
- With the stocking inside-out, insert your hand to the heel. Turn the heel right-side out.
- Insert your thumbs inside the stocking, stretching it wide.
- Pull the heel into position on your heel.
- Gather a small fold at mid-foot, stretch it towards your instep, and pull the stocking up to your ankle.
- Continue pulling the stocking up in 5cm sections, smoothing out any wrinkles. Ensure the heel remains correctly positioned.
Using a Dressing Aid (Butler):
- Place the dressing aid on the floor.
- Hold the stocking with the heel facing you.
- Stretch the stocking onto the aid up to the heel.
- Insert your foot, positioning your heel correctly.
- Pull the aid up to your knee.
- Remove the aid.
- Smooth out any remaining wrinkles.
How to Remove Your Compression Stockings:
- Gently grasp the top of the stocking and roll it down to your knee, then ankle, and finally toe.
- Avoid pulling on the waistband; grasp the knitted fabric instead.
Important Notes:
- If the stocking isn’t stretching properly, lower it and reapply in sections with more force.
- Consider wearing gloves during application.
- For knee-high stockings, do not pull them above the kneecap.
- For stockings with a silicone band, avoid applying lotions or creams to the area where the silicone adheres.
- For tights and men’s compression garments, do not pull the compression section to avoid damaging the seams.
- Do not cut threads or labels to prevent unraveling.
- Wear your compression stockings as directed by your doctor. If no specific instructions were given, it’s recommended to wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening.
