How to Put On Your Compression Stockings:
By Hand:
- Apply stockings in the morning. Ensure your nails are trimmed and rings are removed.
- Sit on a bed or chair with your leg bent at the knee.
- Place the stocking inside out.
- Insert your hand to the heel, grasp the heel with your fingers, and turn the stocking right side out up to the heel. Smooth it out.
- Insert both thumbs inside the turned-out portion of the stocking, stretching it wide.
- Pull the heel area up to your heel, and step onto it.
- Create a small fold at mid-foot, grasp it with your fingers on both sides, and pull it up towards your instep. Smooth it to the top, pulling the material taut.
- Gradually pull the stocking up, smoothing out wrinkles as you go. Ensure the heel is properly positioned.
Using a Donning Aid:
- Place the donning aid on the floor with the arch facing you.
- Hold the stocking with the heel facing you.
- Slide the stocking onto the aid up to the heel.
- Step into the stocking, placing your foot on the floor.
- Pull the aid upwards until it reaches your knee.
- Remove the aid.
- Smooth out any wrinkles.
How to Remove Your Compression Stockings:
- Grasp the top of the stocking and gently pull it down, turning it inside out, towards your knee, then ankle, and finally your toes.
- Avoid pulling on the elastic waistband; instead, grip the knitted fabric.
Important Notes:
- If the stocking feels too tight, lower it and reapply, stretching more firmly.
- Consider wearing gloves during application.
- For knee-high stockings, do not pull them above the kneecap.
- For stockings with a silicone band, avoid applying creams or ointments to the area where the band adheres.
- Do not pull on the compression portion of tights or men’s compression garments, as this may damage the seams.
- Do not cut any threads or labels to prevent unraveling.
- Wear as directed by your physician. If no specific instructions are given, it’s recommended to wear in the morning and remove in the evening.
