How to Put On Your Compression Stockings:
By Hand:
Start by ensuring your nails are trimmed and rings are removed. Sit comfortably and begin by inserting your foot into the stocking, ensuring the heel is properly positioned. Gently pull the stocking up your leg, smoothing out any wrinkles as you go. Pay close attention to the heel placement and ensure the stocking is evenly distributed. Work your way up in sections, ensuring a smooth and even application.
Using a Donning Aid (Butler):
Place the donning aid on the floor. Position the stocking on the aid, ensuring the heel faces you. Slide your foot into the stocking, and use the aid to pull the stocking up your leg. Once the stocking is in place, remove the donning aid and smooth out any wrinkles.
How to Remove Your Compression Stockings:
Gently pull the top of the stocking down, turning it inside out as you go. Continue this process until the stocking is completely removed. Avoid pulling on the waistband.
Important Considerations:
- If the stocking feels too tight, lower it and try again, stretching it more evenly.
- Gloves are recommended during application.
- For knee-high stockings, do not pull them above the kneecap.
- For stockings with silicone bands, avoid applying creams or ointments to the area where the band adheres.
- Do not cut the threads or labels to prevent unraveling.
- Wear stockings as recommended by your doctor. If no recommendation is given, wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening.
Care Instructions:
Hand wash daily with mild detergent in water no hotter than 30°C (86°F). Air dry away from heat and direct sunlight.
