Dabur Chyawanprash is a traditional Indian Ayurvedic biotonic, renowned for its health-boosting and rejuvenating properties. This thick, sweet jam-like preparation (also available in powder, granule, and capsule forms) contains over 40 potent Himalayan and Indian herbs. For over 3000 years, Chyawanprash, meaning "the sage's food," has been used to enhance overall well-being. Legend attributes its creation to the ancient sage Chyawan, who, according to Ayurveda, consumed it daily and lived for 1000 years.
This unique formulation boasts a harmonious blend of six tastes and is easily digestible, with no known allergic reactions or side effects. Originally composed of approximately 50 ingredients, some pharmaceutical companies have enhanced the formula to include up to 80, boosting its effectiveness. The original recipe comprises approximately 75% animal products (including ghee and honey) and 25% plant-based ingredients and spices, creating a synergistic blend of vitamins and minerals.
Amla (Indian gooseberry) makes up nearly 50% of Chyawanprash. This powerhouse ingredient is a potent antioxidant, 55 times more effective than blueberries and 40 times stronger than garlic. It contains almost twice the Vitamin C of rosehips. Its effectiveness is further enhanced by the inclusion of Haritaki paste. The formula also includes over 50 other herbs, utilizing whole plants or specific parts (roots, shoots, leaves), harvested at precise times and locations for optimal efficacy. Licorice root, for example, aids in cough relief, while other herbs target a wide range of ailments.
Consume one teaspoon of the thick paste, holding it in the mouth for 25 seconds before swallowing. Follow with warm milk, non-carbonated mineral water, or green tea. Capsules should be swallowed whole. A thin film may appear on the surface due to the presence of microscopic gold and silver particles; shake well before use. A recommended course of intake is 108 days.
While traditionally available outside pharmacies, the accessibility of Dabur Chyawanprash may vary depending on location. Always consult with a healthcare professional before using Chyawanprash, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions or are taking other medications.
