Dosimeter RadiaCode is a new generation of portable dosimeters and gamma-spectrometers.

The RadiaCode-101 dosimeter detects Gamma, high energy Beta, and continuous X-rays in the energy range 0.05..3.0 MeV and in the power range 0.1-1’000 μSv / h.

Dosimeter RadiaCode-101 is designed to assess the ambient background radiation and the level of radiation from various substances and objects (any suspicious objects and surfaces: building materials, antiques, vehicles, soil, etc.). Also, the device is able to visualize the energy spectrum of the absorbed radiation – for the subsequent independent determination of the substance (isotope) that is the source of radiation.

Integration with Google Maps

An interesting feature of the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter is the ability to mark the results of radiation measurements on a Google map (when paired with a smartphone). The device makes marks of the radiation situation automatically with an interval set in the settings. As a result, the map shows the path traveled on the ground in the form of marks of a uniform color (at the same level of radiation power) and marks of other colors (at higher levels of radiation power). Due to its compactness and wireless Bluetooth connection, the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter can be conveniently placed in a sports case on the lower leg (closer to the ground) or on the arm, and visual control of the detected radiation (if necessary) can be carried out using a smartphone.

Breakthrough Advantages:

To explain the breakthrough advantages of the RadiaCode-101, we will compare it with conventional dosimeters, most of which are based on the gas Geiger Muller tube SBM-20-1. We will compare devices using the two most common practical examples of using dosimeters.

1. Count rate (Reaction rate).

RadiaCode-101 measures radiation approximately 23 times faster than conventional dosimeters on the SBM-20-1 sensor. This is a huge advantage in real-life situations. Suppose you want to walk around your hometown or want to travel and want to find if there are any places with a high background on your route. Usually, in every city you can find buildings with granite facades, paving slabs and monuments, which can radiate up to 1 microsievert per hour.

With a conventional dosimeter you will have to take one step every 20-60 seconds, because of the slow count speed of Geiger tubes. At the same time, depending on the model of the dosimeter, you will most likely have to look constantly at the screen of the device to control the level of radiation power. Everything works much easier with the RadiaCode-101: you can put the dosimeter into your pocket and follow the route at your regular walking speed, with background focusing on sound and / or vibration alarms. You will stop only when you want to determine the specific location of the radiation source after the RadiaCode-101 alarm is triggered.
Moreover, you can even run with a dosimeter – it still manages to monitor the background radiation and signal in time if the radiation level will be exceeded. In addition, the dosimeter can be connected via bluetooth to a smartphone, you don’t have to take it out of your pocket (purse) at all. Any device settings can be done via a mobile application in just a few seconds, while it is not so easy in ordinary dosimeters, and even manual may be required.

But the most interesting thing: the RadioCode can overlay the track of the route you traveled directly on the Google Map of your smartphone and put a mark at each point with the radiation level and with the preservation of gps coordinates. Conventional dosimeters, of course, are not capable of this. Such a track can be easily shared through instant messengers. The track is marked with a customizable color scheme, where you can see high and low levels of radiation through the color picker. 2. Checking food for radiation.

Checking food for radiation is actually an extremely difficult task for most dosimeters, and first of all for those designed on the above-mentioned SBM-20-1 sensors or similar Geiger tubes.

As a result of accidental or uncontrolled releases, radioactive substances caught by the atmosphere winds and then fell out with rains over large areas thousands of miles from the epicenter. Plants absorb these substances for decades. These plants are consumed by cows and other farmed livestock. As a result, we have raw dairy products, berries, mushrooms, meat, fish, which may contain radioactive substances inside. Of course, you should not be very afraid to accidentally buy mushrooms or berries from Chernobyl and similar zones one day, after all, there is sanitary control, which, as a rule, cuts off heavily contaminated food. But on an ongoing basis, it is better not to take food from contaminated territories. There may be more unpredictable surprises if you pick mushrooms and berries yourself, especially on some territories of Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria, the Balkan region, and some other regions, where Chernobyl radioactive cloud fallout in 1986. Radiation stays in the soil for a very long time, feeding plant roots and fungal mycelium with elements such as Cesium-137 and Strontium-90.

RadiaCode-101 is able to detect the isotope of Cesium-137 (and other radionuclides) in the listed food products even in low concentrations. The content of Cesium-137, for example, may even be acceptable according to the MPC norms. However, you need to understand that Cesium 137 is a radioactive isotope that our body confuses with protein and integrates into muscle tissue. Its half-life is more than 30 years, so it will get stuck there for a long time and will irradiate the organs of the body from the inside. So, for the prevention of health, the presence of Cesium-137 in the body is extremely undesirable, even if the product passes the MPC standards. RadiaCode-101 recognizes isotopes using the gamma spectrometry function. In other words, the device not only shows the level of radiation, it also shows the isotopic composition of the source of this radiation. Such a spectrometric analysis is not available in conventional dosimeters.

Moreover, RadiaCode-101 is indispensable in a situation where the level of radiation from a food product is slightly lower than the natural background, then there is only one way to check – through the spectrometry function. And RadiaCode-101 has it.

Radiation is on the map

Features of the RadiaCode sensor:

The dosimeter RadiaCode-101 is designed on the basis of a scintillation radiation sensor.

It includes:

•  crystal CsI (Tl) of cesium iodide doped with thallium in a sealed container;
•  silicon photomultiplier;
•  optical interface between scintillator and photomultiplier;
•  precision temperature-compensated power supply for photomultiplier;
•  high-speed analog-digital circuit for processing pulses from a photomultiplier. In combination with an adaptive processing algorithm, this gives the user of the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter:. – high sensitivity to gamma and x-ray radiation;
•  count the number of pulses (radioactive decays);
•  take into account the amplitude of the pulses;
•  to estimate the radiation dose equivalent to the human body;
•  display the shape of the energy spectrum of ionizing radiation;
•  to evaluate the random error of the dose and dose rate estimates;
•  instant notification of radiation hazard.

The CsI (Tl) crystal, optimal in shape and size, plus a solid-state photomultiplier plus special analog-digital processing – all this gives the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter high sensitivity in a wide range of ionizing radiation energies, the same in all directions from the device.

The point is that a characteristic feature of any scintillation crystal is the dependence of the radiation sensitivity on the shape of the crystal. So, if the crystal is made in the form of an elongated parallelepiped, then the readings of the device equipped with such a sensor may be different, depending on which side of the device is turned to the investigated radiation source. In the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter, the CsI (Tl) crystal is made in a cubic form, which provides it with the same sensitivity in all directions from the device.

Announcement of device firmware updates

In the near future, the following update packages will be released for the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter, which you can independently install in your device (through a simple firmware update procedure):

•  dose rate compensation spectrum;
•  search mode update;
•  increasing the upper limit of the dose rate measurement range;
•  software version for iOS.

The device is designed for mobile and stationary use. Works autonomously and in conjunction with a smartphone or computer. On the ground and indoors. The device is protected from dust and splashing water according to IP64 class. RadiaCode has a high autonomy – up to 300 hours of continuous operation after a full battery charge.

The RadiaCode dosimeter evaluates the radiation situation continuously – as long as it is switched on. The results on the display at any time can be presented in the form of an estimate of the dose rate, counting rate, accumulated dose, energy spectrum of absorbed radiation. Dose accumulation and parameter estimation are independent of the display mode and are not interrupted when switching.

In the absence of communication with a smartphone or computer, the RadiaCode-101 dosimeter saves all significant changes in the radiation situation in a non-volatile memory of 32 MB (up to 1000 hours of observations). When the connection is restored, this data is transmitted to a smartphone or computer for integration into the database.

Automatic screen backlight in dark, high contrast in bright light, and automatic screen rotation.
