Putting on your stockings

By Hand

  1. Hold the stocking right-side out.
  2. Insert your hand to the heel, gripping the heel with your fingers.
  3. Turn the stocking inside out only to the heel, creating a "funnel."
  4. Turn the heel towards you.
  5. Insert your thumbs inside the turned-out portion, stretching it wide. Pull it onto the middle of your foot.
  6. Pull up the heel area, aligning it with your heel, and secure it.
  7. Grip approximately 3-5 cm of the stocking.
  8. Pull the heel area onto your heel.
  9. In sections (about 5 cm each), stretch and smooth the stocking onto your leg.
  10. Gently smooth out any wrinkles.

Using a Dressing Aid (Butler)

  1. Place the dressing aid on the floor, the curve facing you.
  2. Hold the stocking with the heel facing you.
  3. Pull the stocking onto the dressing aid to the heel.
  4. Insert your foot so your sole is on the floor.
  5. Pull the dressing aid up to your knee.
  6. Remove the dressing aid.
  7. Distribute the stocking evenly along your leg.
  8. Smooth out any wrinkles.

Removing your Stockings

  1. Grasp the top of the stocking and gently roll it down, from the knee to the ankle, and then to the toes.
  2. Avoid pulling on the waistband; grip the knitted fabric.
