Description:

Acezone 200mg powder for oral solution is a mucolytic medication used to thin and loosen thick mucus in the respiratory system, making it easier to cough up. Each 3g sachet contains 200mg of acetylcysteine, the active ingredient.

Indications:

Acezone is indicated for the treatment of respiratory conditions characterized by thick, difficult-to-expectorate mucus, including:

• Acute and chronic bronchitis
• Laryngitis
• Sinusitis
• Tracheitis
• Influenza
• Bronchial asthma
• Cystic fibrosis (as an adjunct therapy)

Dosage and Administration:

Acezone is taken orally. The contents of each sachet are dissolved in a glass of cold or warm water. The solution should not be mixed with other medications.

Adults and children over 12 years old:

• Standard dose: 200mg three times daily or 600mg once daily.
• Long-term treatment: 400-600mg per day, in one or more doses, for a maximum of 3 to 6 months.

Children 2 to 12 years old:

• Standard dose: 100mg three times daily or 200mg twice daily.

Cystic fibrosis (adults and children over 6 years old):

200mg three times daily or 600mg once daily.

Duration of treatment:

The duration of the course should be determined by your doctor. For acute illnesses, it typically lasts 5 to 10 days.

Precautions:

• Acezone should be used with caution in patients with a history of gastric ulcers, particularly when taken concurrently with other medications that irritate the stomach lining.
• While rare, severe skin reactions have been reported with acetylcysteine. If you experience any skin changes, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
• Acezone should be used cautiously in patients with bronchial asthma due to the potential risk of bronchospasm.
• It may cause reflex bronchospasm when preparing the solution due to the powder becoming airborne.
• Patients with liver or kidney disease should use Acezone with caution to avoid the buildup of nitrogenous substances in the body.
• Acezone can inhibit diamine oxidase (DAO), which may trigger intolerance symptoms in patients with histamine intolerance.
• Do not combine Acezone with antitussive medications as this can lead to mucus buildup and the risk of bronchospasm.
• Acezone contains sucrose and should not be used in patients with fructose intolerance, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
• Acezone contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which should be considered in patients taking other vitamin C sources.

Interactions:

• Simultaneous use with activated charcoal may decrease the effectiveness of Acezone.
• A 2-hour interval should be maintained between taking antibiotics and Acezone, except for loracarbef.
• Combining Acezone with nitroglycerin may increase the vasodilating and antiplatelet effects of the latter.
• Concomitant use with antitussives should be avoided (see Precautions).
• Acezone may interfere with colorimetric tests for salicylates and urinary ketones.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine or any of the excipients.
• Children under 2 years of age.
• Active peptic ulcer.
• Fructose intolerance (due to the presence of sucrose).
• Hyperoxaluria.

Storage:

Store in a dry, light-protected place at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
