How to Put on Your Compression Stockings:
By Hand:
- Put them on in the morning. Ensure your nails are trimmed and rings are removed.
- Sit on a bed or chair with your leg bent at the knee.
- Turn the stocking inside out to the heel.
- Insert your hand, grasp the heel, and gently pull the stocking onto your foot.
- Stretch the stocking wide, and pull it up to your heel.
- Smooth the stocking up your leg in sections, ensuring there are no wrinkles. Pay close attention to the heel placement.
Using a Donning Aid (Butler):
- Place the donning aid on the floor.
- Place the stocking over the aid, heel facing you.
- Pull the stocking onto the aid to the heel.
- Step into the stocking.
- Use the aid to pull the stocking up your leg.
- Remove the aid and smooth the stocking.
How to Remove Your Compression Stockings:
- Gently pull the top of the stocking down to the knee, then ankle, and finally the toes.
- Avoid pulling on the waistband; instead, grasp the knitted fabric.
Important Notes:
- If the stocking feels too tight, loosen it and reapply.
- Use gloves if preferred.
- For knee-high stockings, do not pull them above the kneecap.
- For stockings with silicone bands, avoid applying creams or ointments to the area where the band adheres.
- Do not cut threads or labels to prevent unraveling.
- Wear stockings as recommended by your doctor. If no recommendation is given, wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening.
