Laticort ointment is indicated for: – seborrheic inflammation of the skin; – atopic dermatitis; – urticaria; – contact allergic dermatitis; – systemic lupus erythematosus; – chronic psoriasis; – lichen planus. Dosage and administration Use no more than one or two times a day. Do not use the medicinal product continuously for more than 2 weeks. On the skin of the face, apply no more than 7 days. During the week, you can use no more than 1 tube of ointment. Children and adolescents Do not use in children under 2 years of age. In children over 2 years of age, use with great caution, only once a day, on a small area of the skin, do not apply on the face. A thin layer of ointment should be applied to the sites of painful changes on the skin. In case of excessive spread of lichen or excessive keratinization of pathological changes, the use of an occlusive dressing is acceptable, which should be changed every 24 hours. Use during pregnancy and lactation If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you suspect that you are pregnant or do not exclude the possibility of pregnancy, inform your doctor. Pregnancy Laticort ointment can be used in pregnant women only for a short time and on a small surface of the skin, if the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus. In any case, do not use in the first trimester of pregnancy. Breastfeeding It is not known to what extent hydrocortisone butyrate, after topical application to the skin, passes into the milk of breastfeeding women. It is recommended to be especially careful if it is necessary to use Laticort ointment in women who are breastfeeding – the drug should be used for a short time and on a small skin surface. Precautions Do not use continuously for more than 2 weeks. Corticosteroids are absorbed through the skin, so during the use of the drug there is a risk of undesirable systemic symptoms of corticosteroids, including inhibition of the activity of the adrenal cortex, a decrease in the concentration of cortisol in the blood, Cushing’s syndrome. Based on these considerations, the use of the drug on large areas of the skin, wounds, damaged skin, use in large doses, as well as long-term treatment should be avoided. During treatment, periodic monitoring of the functions of the adrenal cortex is indicated by determining cortisol in the blood and urine after stimulation of the adrenal glands with ACTH /adrenocorticotropic hormone/. In case of skin infection at the treatment site, additional antibacterial or antifungal treatment should be applied. If the symptoms of the infection persist, the drug should be discontinued until complete recovery. Laticort ointment should not be used on the eyelids or on the skin around the eyelids due to the risk of glaucoma or cataracts, and in people with glaucoma or cataracts, as the symptoms of these diseases may aggravate. Avoid getting the drug in the eyes, open wounds and mucous membranes. If the drug gets into the eyes or mucous membranes, it is recommended to rinse them with plenty of water. As in the case of the use of systemic glucocorticosteroids, after external use of the drug, cataracts and glaucoma or such a rare disease as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) may develop. Consult your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances. On the skin of the face and on the skin of the armpits and groin, it should be used only in cases of emergency, since absorption of the corticosteroid through delicate skin is more intense, and this is associated with an increased risk of telangiectasia, oral dermatitis, cutaneous dystrophy, even after short-term use. Avoid using the drug under an occlusive dressing (oilcloth, diaper), since the dressing enhances the absorption of the corticosteroid by the body; in addition, epidermal dystrophy, stretch marks and secondary infections may occur. Use with caution in conditions of subcutaneous tissue dystrophy, especially in the elderly. Use with extreme caution in patients with psoriasis, since topical corticosteroids in psoriasis can be dangerous for many reasons, including due to relapses of the disease caused by the development of addiction, the risk of generalized pustular psoriasis (von Zumbusch pustular psoriasis) and general toxic effects. caused by a violation of the integrity of the skin. Use in children Use with caution and avoid prolonged use in children over 2 years of age. In children, due to the greater proportion of body area in relation to body weight than in adults, it is easier than in adults to inhibit the functions of the “hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal glands” system and the appearance of undesirable symptoms characteristic of corticosteroids, including .disturbances of growth and development. Interaction with other drugs There are no data on interactions associated with topical use of corticosteroids. However, it must be borne in mind that patients should not be vaccinated against smallpox or other methods of immunization, especially with prolonged use of the drug on a large area of the skin, due to the risk of an abnormal immune response. Ointment “Laticort” can enhance the effect of immunosuppressive agents and weaken the effect of immunostimulating drugs. Contraindications Do not use the drug: – in case of hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone butyrate, other corticosteroids or any of the excipients of the drug; – with viral (for example, chicken pox, herpes simplex), fungal or bacterial infections of the skin; – acne; – rosacea; – inflammation of the skin around the lips; – extensive skin changes; – in children under the age of 2 years; – first trimester of pregnancy. Composition 1 g of ointment contains: 1 mg hydrocortisone butyrate (Hydrocortisoni butyras) Excipients: white petrolatum. Overdose Prolonged or improper topical use of the drug or its use on large areas of the skin can lead to inhibition of the functions of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system, inhibition of growth and development in children. Symptoms of an overdose may occur in the form of edema, increased pressure, hyperglycemia, the appearance of sugar in the urine, a decrease in body resistance, and in severe cases, Cushing’s disease. In this case, the medicinal product should be gradually discontinued or replaced with a less potent one Side effects Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders Symptoms similar to seborrhea, post-steroid spotted pigmentation, dystrophy of the epidermis and subcutaneous tissue, dry skin, excessive hairiness or baldness, depigmentation or hyperpigmentation of the skin may occur , inflammation of hair follicles, secondary infections, skin irritations. Sometimes there may be urticaria or pigmentary acne. Visual disturbances In the case of the use of a medicinal product on the skin of the eyelids, glaucoma or cataracts can sometimes occur. Blurred vision is sometimes observed – the frequency of development is unknown. System-wide disorders As a result of the absorption of the active component of the drug into the blood, undesirable system-wide effects from exposure to hydrocortisone butyrate may also occur. They are observed, first of all, in the case of prolonged use of the drug, its use on large areas of the skin, under an occlusive dressing, or in the case of use in children. Undesirable systemic symptoms of hydrocortisone butyrate are characteristic of all corticosteroids, among others: inhibition of the functions of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal glands, Cushing’s syndrome, inhibition of growth and development in children, hyperglycemia, the appearance of sugar in the urine, swelling, high blood pressure, decreased immunity . If side effects occur, tell your doctor about it. This applies to all possible side effects, including those not described in this package insert. Storage conditions Store below 25°C.
