Name:
Clovate ointment for nar. approx. 0.5 mg/g in tubes 25 g in pack No. 1
Description:
White translucent oily soft mass. The main active ingredient Clobetasol Release form Ointment Dosage 0.5 mg Pharmacological properties Clobetasol propionate is the most potent synthetic glucocorticosteroid for topical use on the skin. Topically applied on the skin, an ointment of 0.5 mg / g concentration has a very strong anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, anti-allergic and vasoconstrictive effect. It exhibits lipophilic properties and easily penetrates through the skin into the body. Already after applying 2 g of the ointment, the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) by the pituitary gland may decrease by inhibiting the adrenal-pituitary system. Indications for use Cloveit ointment is used for the short-term treatment of acute and severe, uninfected, dry inflammatory skin conditions that respond to glucocorticosteroid treatment with persistent itching or excessive keratosis when treatment with weaker glucocorticosteroids is ineffective. Cloveit is indicated for seborrheic dermatitis, contact eczema, atopic dermatitis, advanced psoriasis, lichen erythematous, erythema multiforme, discoid lupus erythematosus, lichen planus with intense itching, impetiginous eczema. Method of application and doses Locally, easily rubbing a small amount of ointment on the affected skin surface, 1-2 times a day. Should not be used under an occlusive dressing. Treatment should not be carried out for more than 2 weeks without a break. Wash hands after use. Continuous use of the drug – no more than 2 weeks. After achieving a therapeutic effect, treatment must be stopped. If further treatment is necessary, preparations containing glucocorticosteroids of lesser strength should be used. Children Do not use in children under 12 years of age. Application during pregnancy and lactation In experiments conducted on animals, it was found that corticosteroids exhibit a teratogenic effect even when small doses are used orally. The teratogenic effect has also been confirmed in animals after the use of strong corticosteroids on the skin. No controlled studies have been conducted regarding the possible teratogenic effect of clobetasol propionate in pregnant women after topical application to the skin. Clobetasol propionate is a strong corticosteroid and it is not recommended to use Cloveit ointment in pregnant women unless it is vital. Use in lactating women It is not known to what extent clobetasol propionate after topical application can be excreted in the milk of a nursing woman. Clobetasol propionate is a very strong corticosteroid and therefore it is not recommended to use the medicinal preparation Cloveit ointment in women during lactation. Precautions Do not use the drug for more than 2 weeks without a break. If there are signs of side effects when using Cloveit, you should immediately stop using it. With prolonged use on large areas of the skin, the frequency of side effects and the risk of edema, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and a decrease in body resistance increase. Therefore, the use of Cloveit on a large area of the skin surface should be avoided and should be used with caution in children over 12 years of age. Considering that in children the ratio of body surface to mass is greater than in adults, the risk of side effects is higher and is associated with the entry of clobetasol propionate into the systemic circulation. It is recommended to periodically monitor the function of the adrenal cortex by determining cortisol in the blood and urine after stimulation of the adrenal glands with ACTH. If an infection develops at the site of application of the ointment, appropriate antibacterial or antifungal treatment should be applied. If the symptoms of the infection persist, the use of Cloveit ointment should be discontinued until the infection is completely cured. It is necessary to avoid contact of the drug with mucous membranes and wounds. The use of the drug on the skin of the eyelids or on the skin in the eyelid area in people with closed- or open-angle glaucoma, as well as cataracts, should be avoided, due to the risk of exacerbation of the disease. Avoid getting the drug in the eyes, open wounds and mucous membranes. If the drug gets into the eyes or mucous membranes, it is recommended to rinse them with plenty of water. As in the case of the use of systemic glucocorticosteroids, after external use of the drug, cataracts and glaucoma or such a rare disease as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) may develop. Consult your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances. It is necessary to use the drug with caution in patients with psoriasis, because. Topical application of corticosteroids can be dangerous for many reasons, including the development of tolerance to corticosteroids, the risk of developing generalized pustular psoriasis, and the general toxic effect of corticosteroids caused by a violation of the integrity of the skin surface. On the skin of the face, as well as in the axillary and inguinal areas, use the drug only in cases of special need, given the increased absorption and increased risk of side effects (telangiectasia, perioral dermatitis), even after a short use. Use with caution in already existing atrophic conditions of the subcutaneous tissue, especially in the elderly. Due to the content of propylene glycol, the drug may cause skin irritation. Interaction with other drugs Interactions with other drugs have not been identified in the case of topical application of Cloveit. During treatment with corticosteroids, patients should not be vaccinated against smallpox. Other types of immunization should also not be carried out, especially with prolonged use of the drug on large areas of the skin due to the risk of a lack of a correct immunological response. Clovate ointment may increase the effect of immunosuppressive and weaken the effect of immunostimulatory drugs. Contraindications Do not use Cloveit ointment: – for bacterial, viral and fungal infections of the skin, – for rosacea and acne vulgaris, – for perioral dermatitis, – after vaccination, – in case of hypersensitivity to clobetasol propionate or other glucocorticosteroids and in case of hypersensitivity to auxiliary components of the drug, – in case of itching of the genital organs and anus, – under an occlusive dressing, – in children under 12 years old, – for a long time. Active ingredient 1 g of ointment contains 0.5 mg of clobetasol propionate. Excipients Propylene glycol, Sorbitan sesquioleate, Vaseline white. Overdose After prolonged use, or use on large surfaces of the skin, symptoms of an overdose may appear: edema, hypertension, hyperglycemia, a decrease in body resistance – or hyperpigmentation of the skin, atrophy of the skin and striae, telangiectasia, perioral dermatitis, inflammation of the hair follicles, atrophic streaks, secondary infection. Rarely, urticaria or a maculopapular rash may occur. When used under an occlusive dressing, the drug can cause a strong general effect in the form of edema, hypertension, and a decrease in resistance. Topical application to the skin of the eyelids can sometimes lead to the development of glaucoma or cataracts. Blurred vision is sometimes observed – the frequency of development is unknown. With prolonged use of the drug, when applied to a large surface of the skin, in the case of application under an occlusive dressing, when used in children, penetration of clobetasol propionate into the systemic circulation is possible. In this case, side effects characteristic of corticosteroids may occur: inhibition of the function of the adrenal-pituitary system, Cushing’s syndrome, growth retardation and development in children, hyperglycemia, glycosuria, edema, arterial hypertension, and a decrease in body resistance. If any of the side effects listed in the instructions get worse, or if you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor. Storage conditionsStore at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life – 2 years. Do not use the drug after the expiration date.
