Name:
Polydex ear
Description:
Transparent liquid of light yellow color, foaming when stirred The main active ingredient of dexamethasone is sodium metasulfobenzoate, neomycin sulfate Release form Drops Dosage 10.5 ml Pharmacological action Combined drug for topical use in otolaryngology. The therapeutic effect of Polydex is due to the anti-inflammatory action of dexamethasone and the antibacterial action of the antibiotics neomycin and polymyxin B. When these antibiotics are combined, the spectrum of antibacterial action on most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that cause infectious and inflammatory diseases of the external and middle ear is expanded. Neomycin is active against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus inflenzae. Polymyxin B is active against Gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Haemophilus inflenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Streptococcus spp. are resistant to these antibiotics. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae). Indications for use – Otitis externa without damage to the eardrum; – Infected eczema of the external auditory canal. This medicine should not be used in case of perforation of the eardrum due to the risk of ototoxicity. Dosage and administration Adults: instill 1-5 drops in each ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days. Children: instill 1-2 drops in each ear 2 times a day for 6-10 days. The average duration of treatment is 7 days. Before using ear drops, it is recommended to warm the bottle by holding it in your hand, in order to avoid the discomfort associated with the ingress of cold liquid into the ear. Drops are instilled into the sore ear, head tilted, pulling the auricle several times. Keep the head tilted to one side for about 5 minutes to facilitate the penetration of drops into the external auditory canal. If necessary, the steps should be repeated with the other ear. Do not use the medicine under strong pressure. At the end of treatment, the remaining vial should be discarded and should not be stored for reuse. Use during pregnancy and lactation During pregnancy or lactation, this medicine can only be used as directed by a doctor. With long-term treatment of pregnant women, there is a risk of ototoxic effects on the fetus. Precautions Before prescribing, check the integrity of the eardrum. In case of perforation of the tympanic membrane, the instillation of the drug can be toxic to the ear and cause undesirable effects on the auditory and vestibular apparatus. Stop treatment if a skin rash or other local or general allergic reaction occurs. It is not recommended to use this drug simultaneously with any other topical therapeutic agents. The simultaneous use of other aminoglycosides is not allowed. With topical application of neomycin or polymyxin B, the development of an allergic reaction may exclude the possibility of using other antibiotics that are similar in structure to neomycin and polymyxin B. If you are allergic to neomycin, cross-allergy with antibiotics – aminoglycosides is possible. The presence of a corticosteroid does not affect the manifestations of skin allergic reactions to antibiotics, but may change the clinical picture of an allergic reaction. Athletes should be warned that the medicinal product contains an active substance (dexamethasone), which may give a positive reaction in doping control. Do not swallow, do not inject under pressure. During application, avoid touching the pipette tip, both with your fingers and with your ear, to reduce the risk of infection. If symptoms do not disappear after 10 days of treatment, the patient should consult a doctor for a review of the diagnosis and treatment strategy. Interaction with other drugs Incompatible with monomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin, amikacin, netilmicin (increased ototoxic effect). Contraindications – Infectious or traumatic damage to the eardrum; Perforation of the tympanic membrane (confirmed or suspected); – Hypersensitivity to neomycin or other drugs from the aminoglycoside group; – Hypersensitivity to polymyxin B; – Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or other components of the drug; – Viral infections of the external auditory canal (including chicken pox, Herpes simplex); With caution: pregnancy, breastfeeding period. Composition 100 ml of the drug contains: Active ingredients: dexamethasone sodium metasulfobenzoate 0.100 g neomycin sulfate 1 g, which corresponds to 650,000 IU polymyxin B sulfate 1,000,000 IU Excipients: thiomersal, citric acid (E33O), 1N sodium hydroxide solution (E524), macrogol 400 (E1521), polysorbate 80 (E433), purified water qs 100 ml. Overdose Due to the low degree of absorption into the systemic circulation, an overdose is unlikely. Side effects Allergic reactions are possible, rarely – skin manifestations. If the integrity of the tympanic membrane is violated, there is a risk of toxic effects on the auditory and vestibular apparatus. Selection of resistant strains and development of mycosis (infection caused by fungi). Storage conditions Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C, out of the reach of children.
