Description:
Clear, reddish solution. The main active ingredient Cytochrome c + adenosine + nicotinamide Release form 10 ml in a dropper bottle made of low-density polyethylene with a screw cap made of high-density polyethylene. The dropper bottle, along with instructions for use, is placed in a cardboard box. Dosage 10 ml Special instructions Oftan® Katahrom is not used for injection or oral administration. The medicinal product contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative which may be absorbed on soft contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation of drops and put on again 15 minutes after instillation of the drug. In the case of simultaneous use of other ophthalmic drugs, the patient should wait 15 minutes between instillations. To avoid contamination of the dropper and solution, it is not recommended to touch the eyelashes and other surface areas with the tip of the dropper. The vial should be kept tightly closed. Pharmacodynamics The mechanism of action of Oftan® Katahrom eye drops in the treatment of cataracts is based mainly on the antioxidant and nutritional effects of its active ingredients, such as cytochrome C, adenosine, nicotinamide. Indications for use Initial senile cataract. Dosage and administration Instill 1-2 drops locally into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s), gently pulling the lower eyelid and looking up, 3 times a day. Before instillation of eye drops: Wash your hands thoroughly. Take a comfortable position (sit down, lie on your back, stand in front of a mirror). Application of eye drops: Open the bottle. To avoid contamination of the contents of the bottle – do not touch the tip of the bottle to the eyelids, eyelashes and do not touch it with your hands. When using the bottle for the first time, turn the bottle cap while pressing down and then open the bottle. Tilt your head back. Place the vial over the eye.3. Side effect After instillation, there may be a short-term burning sensation and tingling in the eyes. Occasionally, symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis (conjunctival hyperemia, itchy eyes, burning sensations in the eyes) and contact dermatitis have been reported. In rare cases, allergic reactions accompanied by a rash on the skin, itching, flushing and swelling of the skin of the face can be caused by Oftan® Katahrom. However, ocular adverse reactions are extremely rare. Possible short-term adverse reactions that are associated with adenosine are: nausea, arterial hypotension, dizziness and shortness of breath. Nicotinic acid is a vasodilator and can therefore cause hot flashes, sensations of heat, fainting, and a sensation of throbbing in the head. No systemic adverse reactions caused by cytochrome C have been reported. Due to the low content of active substances in the eye drops, systemic side effects are unlikely.
