If constipation or bloating develops during treatment, the drug should be discontinued. In patients with impaired liver function, careful monitoring for signs of CNS toxicity is necessary. Precautions (Precautions) The drug should be used with caution in patients with hepatic insufficiency. Contraindications Diverticulosis; intestinal obstruction; ulcerative colitis in the acute stage; diarrhea against the background of acute pseudomembranous enterocolitis; as monotherapy for dysentery and other gastrointestinal infections; I trimester of pregnancy; lactation period; children’s age up to 6 years; hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Dosage and administration The drug should be taken orally, tablets and capsules should be swallowed without chewing with 100 ml of water. Adults with acute and chronic diarrhea are prescribed initially 4 mg, then 2 mg after each act of defecation in the case of loose stools. The maximum daily dose is 16 mg. Children over 6 years of age are prescribed 2 mg after each act of defecation in case of loose stools. The maximum daily dose is 6 mg. After normalization of the stool or in the absence of a stool for more than 12 hours, treatment should be discontinued. Overdose Symptoms: CNS depression (stupor, incoordination, drowsiness, miosis, muscle hypertonicity, respiratory depression), intestinal obstruction. Treatment: antidote – naloxone. Since loperamide has a longer duration of action than naloxone, repeated administration of the latter is possible.
