[Special instructions] In order to avoid side effects, it is recommended to first apply a small amount of ointment to the skin to determine the sensitivity to the drug. When applied to the skin, the drug causes a feeling of warmth or coolness, pain or damage to the skin should not occur. In case of pain, swelling or rash on the skin, stop using the drug and consult a doctor immediately. After the application of ointments containing salicylates, there have been reports of the development of burns. After applying the ointment, it is not recommended to use a bandage that fits snugly against the skin and local heat (heaters, lamps, bags or hot water bottles) due to an increased risk of skin reactions. Avoid applying the ointment to wounds, skin areas with a violation of the integrity of the skin or irritation. Avoid contact of the ointment with the conjunctiva of the eyes and mucous membranes (mouth, nose, genitals). If the ointment gets into the eyes and mucous membranes, rinse these places thoroughly with plenty of running water. Wash your hands thoroughly after each use of the ointment. If after applying the ointment there is no improvement or a relapse of the disease occurs, you should consult a doctor. The ointment contains cetostearyl alcohol as an excipient, which can cause skin reactions (including contact dermatitis). [Pharmacological action] The pharmacological action is due to the components that make up the drug: viper venom, camphor, turpentine, salicylic acid. A few minutes after applying the ointment, there is a burning sensation, a feeling of warmth and slight hyperemia of the skin. The analgesic effect occurs in 20-30 minutes and lasts 1.5-2 hours. [Pharmacodynamics] The main active ingredient of the ointment is the venom of the common viper (Vipera berus berus L.), which contains phospholipase, phosphodiesterase, hyaluronidase and other active substances. Viper venom also contains specific peptides that cause hemolysis, increase capillary permeability, and affect blood clotting. When applied topically, viper venom has an irritating and analgesic effect, activates the body’s defense mechanisms during resorption. The ointment also contains substances that irritate sensitive nerve endings, and thus have a local irritating and analgesic effect. Local irritation of the skin causes a change in blood supply and a selective improvement in the trophism of the internal organs innervated by the same segments of the spinal cord. Additional stimulation causes additional activation of the antinociceptive system in the corresponding segment of the spinal cord, which prevents the primary pain impulses from reaching the cerebral cortex and prevents the perception of pain. Along with the analgesic effect of racemic camphor, salicylic acid and gum turpentine have an antiseptic effect. [Pharmacokinetics] Pharmacokinetics have not been studied. [Indications for use] Topical remedy for relieving joint and muscle pain. [Method of application and dose] Outwardly. Apply 5-10 g (1-2 teaspoons) of ointment to the painful area in small portions and rub it into the skin, depending on the intensity of the pain, 1-2 times a day until the pain syndrome disappears. Do not apply the drug over large areas. The duration of the course of treatment depends on the nature and severity of the disease. The duration of use without consulting a doctor is not more than 10 days. [Use during pregnancy and lactation] Contraindicated in pregnancy. At the time of treatment should stop breastfeeding.
