Name:
Potassium permanganate por.dprig.p-ra dmest.and od.prim.5g in a package Composition Active ingredient – potassium permanganate 5 g.
Description:
Dark purple or brownish-black granular powder or dark purple or almost black crystals with a metallic luster. Pharmacotherapeutic group Antiseptic and disinfectants. ATX code: D08AX06. Pharmacological properties The action is due to strong oxidizing properties. In contact with organic substances, it releases atomic oxygen. The oxide formed during the restoration of the drug forms complex compounds with proteins – albuminates (due to this, potassium permanganate in small concentrations has an astringent, and in concentrated solutions – an irritating, cauterizing and tanning effect). It also has a deodorizing effect. Effective in the treatment of burns and ulcers. The ability of potassium permanganate to neutralize some poisons underlies the use of its solutions for gastric lavage in case of poisoning with an unknown poison and food poisoning. When ingested, it is absorbed, exerting a hematotoxic effect (leads to the development of methemoglobinemia). Indications for use – infected wounds, burns, skin ulcers; – infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx (including tonsillitis, pharyngitis); – gynecological and urological diseases (vaginitis, colpitis, urethritis, cystitis, balanoposthitis); – poisoning with alkaloids, phosphorus, quinine; contact with aniline on the skin. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to potassium permanganate. Interaction with other drugs When interacting with some organic (tannin, sugar, coal, alcohol, glycerin, organic acids) or easily oxidized substances (sulfur, sodium thiosulfate, sodium nitrate, reduced iron), an explosion may occur. When interacting with bromides, iodides, chlorides, free halides are released. Precautions Potassium permanganate solution, when applied externally, stains the skin brown. High concentrations may cause skin irritation. Use during pregnancy and lactation There are no data on use during pregnancy and lactation, so the drug should be prescribed if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or child. Use in children The efficacy and safety of the drug in children have not been established, so its use is possible only under the supervision or as prescribed by a doctor. Influence on the ability to drive a car and work with mechanisms There is no data on the effect of potassium permanganate on the ability to drive a car or work with mechanisms. Method of application and doses Outwardly, topically, in the form of aqueous solutions: – for washing infected wounds – 0.1 – 0.5% solution daily until the wound is completely cleansed of purulent discharge and granulations appear; – for lubrication (irrigation) of ulcerative and burn surfaces – 2 – 5% solution daily until the complete disappearance of weeping in the lesion; – for washing and douching in gynecological and urological diseases – 0.01 – 0.02 – 0.1% solution daily for 7-10 days; – for rinsing the mouth and pharynx – 0.01 – 0.02 – 0.1% solution 4-5 times a day for 3-5 days; -for gastric lavage in case of poisoning with alkaloids, phosphorus, quinine; skin – if aniline gets on it – 0.01 – 0.1% solution once until clean wash water is obtained. Rules for the preparation of solutions. Potassium permanganate should be dissolved in warm (40-45°C) freshly boiled drinking water. In a clean glass jar, measure the required amount of water, according to the table below, then pour potassium permanganate powder into the water and leave for 30-40 minutes until completely dissolved, stirring occasionally with a glass or ceramic spoon. Leave the solution to stand for another 10-15 minutes and carefully drain the top layer of the solution into a clean glass dish, being careful not to disturb the remaining undissolved crystals at the bottom. Attention! Getting into the finished solution of crystals from the residue at the bottom is not allowed! The solution is used only freshly prepared. Overdose Symptoms: sharp pain in the mouth, along the esophagus, in the abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea; the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and pharynx is edematous, dark brown, purple in color, laryngeal edema is possible, the development of mechanical asphyxia, burn shock, motor agitation, convulsions, parkinsonism, hemorrhagic colitis, nephropathy, hepatopathy. With reduced acidity of gastric juice, methemoglobinemia may develop with severe cyanosis and shortness of breath. The lethal dose for children is about 3 g, for adults – 0.3 – 0.5 g / kg. Treatment: methylene blue (50 ml of 1% solution), ascorbic acid (intravenously – 30 ml of 5% solution), cyanocobalamin – up to 1 mg, pyridoxine (intramuscularly – 3 ml of 5% solution). Side effect Allergic reactions. Potassium permanganate in high concentration solutions can cause tissue irritation, with increased tissue sensitivity – a burn. When ingested in people with low acidity of gastric juice, it leads to a hemotoxic effect (methemoglobinemia). Upakovka5 g in bags from paper with a polymeric covering. Storage conditions In a place protected from moisture, at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life 5 years.
