Duration of use of the drug: no more than two weeks. Elderly patients: dose adjustment is not required. Hepatic/kidney dysfunction: Caution should be exercised in severe hepatic and severe renal insufficiency. Self-treatment with guaifenesin should be limited to 3-5 days. If there is no significant improvement during this time, the patient is advised to seek medical attention, as this may be a serious illness. Use during pregnancy and lactation Pregnancy Animal studies on the reproductive toxicity and effects on fertility of guaifenesin are limited. There are no or insufficient data on the safety of use in pregnant women. There is evidence of the development of malformations in humans (hernia), and there is not enough experience with the use during the second and third trimester of pregnancy. In addition, guaifenesin use has been associated with an increased risk of neural tube defects in a small number of women with febrile illness in the first trimester of pregnancy. Therefore, guaifenesin is not recommended during pregnancy and in women of childbearing age who are not using contraceptives. Lactation Guaifenesin is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. There is insufficient information about the effects of guaifenesin on children. Therefore, guaifenesin should not be used during breastfeeding. Precautions Before using Gvaitussin Plus, syrup, you should consult a doctor. Gwaitussin Plus, syrup should not be taken at the same time as other cold medicines. Do not take guaifenesin to treat a persistent cough without a doctor’s prescription. During treatment, it is recommended to take a sufficient amount of liquid. It is advisable to combine the treatment with Gwaitussin Plus, syrup with postural drainage or vibration massage of the chest. If, after 7 days (5 days in children) of taking the drug, the cough persists or hyperthermia, skin rash, prolonged headache, sore throat are noted along with the cough, you should consult your doctor. Caution should be exercised in children aged 2 to 12 years with persistent or chronic cough on the background of bronchial asthma or with increased sputum production (careful medical supervision is required before prescribing guaifenesin). It is possible to stain the urine pink. Urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (using the nitrosonaphthol reagent) may be falsely elevated due to the effect of guaifenesin metabolites on color (guaifenesin should be discontinued 48 hours prior to urine collection for this test). Guaifenesin and its metabolites can cause discoloration in the determination of vanillylmandelic acid in the urine and falsely increase the results of the test with it for catechins (Guaifenesin should be stopped 48 hours before urine collection for this test) The use of the drug in people with impaired liver and kidney function is possible under the supervision of a doctor. The drug does not contain sugar and can be used by patients with diabetes. In children under 6 years of age, with impaired liver and kidney function, and in patients with myasthenia gravis, the drug is recommended to be used with caution and only on the recommendation and under the supervision of a physician. This medicinal product contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per dose, i.e. essentially “free of sodium”. This medicinal product contains sorbitol and should therefore not be taken by patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance. Sorbitol may have a mild laxative effect. The composition of the drug includes metabisulphite, as a result of which the use of the drug can cause, in rare cases, severe allergic reactions and bronchospasm. Interaction with other drugs: Combined use with antitussives can lead to difficulties in removing sputum, so this combination is not recommended. Compatible with bronchodilators, antimicrobials, cardiac glycosides. Guaifenesin can increase the rate of absorption of paracetamol, enhance the effects of sedatives and muscle relaxants. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to guaifenesin and other components of the drug; “wet” cough with copious sputum; peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum, gastric bleeding (in history); children’s age up to 2 years.
