medi SAS 45 (L) Shoulder Abduction Orthosis
The medi SAS 45 (L) Shoulder Abduction Orthosis offers superior post-operative support and rehabilitation for a variety of shoulder conditions. This lightweight and comfortable orthosis provides gentle abduction of the shoulder at either 30° or 45°, relieving stress on the joint and promoting faster healing. Designed for use following:
- Shoulder arthroplasty (shoulder replacement): Provides crucial post-operative immobilization at the optimal angle.
- Rotator cuff repair: Facilitates proper healing and prevents adhesion formation.
- Subacromial bursitis: Offers effective immobilization and pain relief during conservative treatment.
- Partial rotator cuff tears: Supports the shoulder joint and encourages healing.
- Acromioplasty: Provides post-operative support and minimizes strain on the repaired area.
- Shoulder dislocations: Assists in conservative management and post-reduction immobilization.
- Open or arthroscopic shoulder stabilization: Provides functional rest to the glenoid labrum and anterior capsule.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Adjustable Abduction Angles: Offers 30° and 45° abduction angles for customized support. The angle is achieved via a comfortable polyurethane pad.
- Lightweight and Comfortable Design: Minimizes discomfort and promotes patient compliance.
- Easy Application: Universal design allows for use on either the left or right arm by simply readjusting the straps. Precise adjustments are easily achieved via multiple straps.
- Integrated Hand Exerciser: Helps prevent muscle atrophy in the forearm by allowing for active range of motion exercises.
- Superior Immobilization: Effectively immobilizes the shoulder joint while still allowing for elbow and wrist movement. This promotes early functional recovery.
- Reduces Risk of Adhesive Capsulitis: The controlled abduction angle helps prevent the development of frozen shoulder.
- Early Mobilization: Enables early active and passive mobilization of the elbow and wrist, speeding recovery.
- Suitable for both conservative and post-operative management.
Contraindications:
None currently known.
Mechanism of Action:
The anatomically shaped pad abducts the shoulder, thereby unloading the glenoid labrum. The controlled abduction angle (30° or 45°) prevents adhesion formation (adhesive capsulitis). Additional shoulder stabilization is provided by a special strap, allowing for early active and passive mobilization of the elbow and wrist. This enables early functional treatment and the commencement of physiotherapy.
