Depending on the size of the painful area, apply 2-4 g of the drug (which is comparable in volume to the size of a cherry or walnut and is sufficient to treat a body surface area of 400-800 cm2) on the affected skin area 2 times a day in the morning and evening and lightly rub. How to apply the drug? 1. In order to remove the protective membrane from the tube before the first use of the drug, unscrew and remove the cap. Use the reverse side of the lid to thread, twist and remove the protective membrane from the tube. 2. Gently squeeze a small amount of gel from the tube, and apply to the painful or swollen area, rubbing slowly into the skin. The amount of gel may depend on the size of the painful or swollen area. An amount comparable to the size of a cherry or walnut should usually suffice. You may notice a slight cooling effect when the gel is rubbed into the skin. 3. Wash your hands after rubbing in the preparation, if they are not the treatment area, to avoid getting the gel in your mouth or eyes (see section 2). The drug is used only externally. How long should the drug be taken? Do not use the drug for more than 14 days. Longer use may be recommended by a doctor. Interactions with other drugs Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are taking or have recently taken, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Contraindications if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to diclofenac or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (see section 5 and end of section 2), or to other medicines to treat: pain, fever or inflammation, such as ibuprofen or acetylsalicylic acid (a substance used to prevent blood clotting). Overdose If you have applied more gel than you should, wipe off the excess gel with a tissue. If you or your child accidentally swallows the gel, contact your doctor immediately. Side effects Like all medicines, Voltaren Emulgel can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Some adverse reactions, which are rare or very rare, may be serious.
