Dosage and administration The drug containing oxymetazoline 0.25 mg / ml, 0.5 mg / ml is used intranasally. Before using the drug and 5 minutes after its use, it is necessary to clean the nasal passages. Remove the protective cap from the vial. Before the first use, press the spray nozzle several times until a jet appears with a “fog cloud”. The bottle is ready to use. Performing the procedure: When injecting, press the spray nozzle once and inject the spray alternately into each nasal passage. You should hold the spray bottle vertically, do not tilt your head up when injecting. Do not spray horizontally or downwards. After use, clean the tip of the nozzle of the spray bottle, close with a protective cap. The vial should only be used by one person due to the risk of infection transmission. Children from 1 to 6 years of age: use a spray with a dosage of 0.25 mg / ml, 1 injection into each nasal passage 2-3 times a day. Adults and children over 6 years of age: use a spray with a dosage of 0.5 mg / ml, 1 injection into each nasal passage 2-3 times a day. The drug is contraindicated in newborns and children under the age of 1 year. Doses higher than those recommended can only be used under medical supervision. The drug should not be used more than 3 times a day. The duration of taking the drug should be no more than 7 days. Use during pregnancy and lactation When used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, do not exceed the recommended dosage. The drug can be used only after a thorough assessment of the ratio of benefit to the mother and the risk to the fetus (child). Precautions The use of the drug is possible only after a real benefit / risk assessment for: increased intraocular pressure, especially in angle-closure glaucoma; severe forms of cardiovascular diseases (for example, coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension); pheochromocytoma; metabolic disorders (eg, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus); porphyria; prostatic hyperplasia; treatment with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors and other drugs that affect the increase in blood pressure. Prolonged use and overdose of the drug can lead to a weakening of its effect. Abuse of this drug can cause: reactive hyperemia of the nasal mucosa (reverse effect); chronic swelling of the nasal mucosa (drug rhinitis); mucosal atrophy. Due to the presence of benzalkonium chloride and propylene glycol in the composition of the drug, there is a risk of developing bronchospasm, irritation of the nasal mucosa and skin of the wings of the nose; with prolonged use, swelling of the nasal mucosa develops. If the above symptoms occur, the use of the drug should be discontinued or replaced with a drug that does not contain these components. Influence on the ability to drive a car and work with mechanisms After prolonged use of the drug in dosages exceeding the recommended ones, a general effect on the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system cannot be ruled out. In these cases, the ability to drive a vehicle or mechanisms may be reduced. Interaction with other drugs With the simultaneous appointment of MAO blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, an increase in blood pressure is possible. Co-administration of other vasoconstrictor drugs increases the risk of side effects. Contraindications atrophic rhinitis; angle-closure glaucoma; hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline and other components of the drug; children under the age of 1 year; children under 6 years of age (spray with a dosage of 0.5 mg / ml); after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy or after other surgical intervention that affects the dura mater. Composition 1 ml of the drug contains 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg of oxymetazoline hydrochloride as an active substance. Excipients: macrogol 400, propylene glycol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, povidone (K 25), disodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride, disodium phosphate 12-water, concentrated hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide, purified water. Overdose After a significant overdose or accidental ingestion, symptoms associated with both hyperactive phases and inhibition phases of the central nervous system (CNS) may occur: CNS stimulation manifests itself in anxiety, agitation, hallucinations and convulsions. CNS depression is manifested in a decrease in body temperature, lethargy, drowsiness, coma. The following additional symptoms: miosis, mydriasis, nausea, vomiting, cyanosis, fever, sweating, pallor, spasms, palpitations, tachycardia, bradycardia, arrhythmia, cardiovascular failure, cardiac arrest, arterial hypertension, respiratory depression, apnea, pulmonary edema, respiratory disorders, mental disorders. In case of overdose in children, CNS disorders often occur, accompanied by convulsions, bradycardia, apnea, arterial hypotension, hypertension and the possible development of coma. Therapeutic measures for overdose: taking activated charcoal (absorbent), sodium sulfate (laxative), gastric lavage, ventilation of the lungs. You should not take vasopressors.
