Vilensky Splint 2: Pediatric Hip Abduction Orthosis
Description
The Vilensky Splint 2 is an adjustable abduction orthosis featuring a central screw mechanism and two cuffs secured with lacing. Cuffs are positioned on the lower third of the legs, allowing for precise adjustment of limb abduction by varying the length of the central rod. Used independently or in conjunction with other devices (e.g., Mirzoeva splint, Koshly splint), it provides a progressive treatment approach. Available in three sizes to accommodate infants and toddlers from two weeks to one year of age. The splint facilitates gentle hip abduction to address conditions like developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and hip dislocation, while maintaining leg mobility. Note: Actual splint color may vary.
Enhanced Text (Body Copy)
The Vilensky Splint 2 is a gentle yet effective abduction orthosis designed for infants and young children (2 weeks to 1 year) with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) or hip dislocation. This adjustable splint features a central screw mechanism and two comfortable cuffs that secure to the lower third of the legs via lacing. The adjustable length of the central rod allows for precise control of hip abduction, promoting proper hip development.
Unlike restrictive casts or harnesses, the Vilensky Splint 2 allows for natural leg movement at the joints, preventing restricted development. It’s often used as a sequential treatment step, either independently or in combination with other therapies such as the Mirzoeva or Koshly splints.
Sizing and Application
Three sizes are available to accommodate various leg circumferences:
- Size 1 (Small): Abduction: 16-23 cm; Cuff Circumference: 12-16 cm (typically suitable for newborns to 4 months)
- Size 2 (Medium): Abduction: 21-33 cm; Cuff Circumference: 16-22 cm (typically suitable for infants up to 1 year)
- Size 3 (Large): Abduction: 30-50 cm; Cuff Circumference: 22-28 cm (typically suitable for children over 1 year)
Measure your child’s lower leg circumference with a snug-fitting tape measure to determine the appropriate size. The splint should fit securely but not constrict circulation.
Important Considerations
- The Vilensky splint should remain on continuously, except during bathing.
- The color of the actual product may differ from the image shown.
- Consult with your pediatrician or orthopedic specialist to determine the appropriate splint size and treatment plan.
