Prestarium A tablets contain perindopril, an ACE inhibitor that helps lower blood pressure effectively. This medication is available in a pack of 30 film-coated tablets, each containing 5mg of perindopril. Each tablet is green, round, biconvex and embossed on one side and the other.

Indications:

Prestarium A is indicated for the treatment of:

• Arterial hypertension: Helps lower blood pressure in all degrees of mild, moderate, and severe hypertension.
• Heart failure: Reduces the workload of the heart by decreasing pre- and afterload.
• Prevention of recurrent stroke: Reduces the risk of stroke in patients with a history of cerebrovascular disease.
• Prevention of cardiovascular events: Reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and heart failure in patients with documented stable ischemic heart disease.

How Prestarium A Works:

Perindopril inhibits the enzyme that converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II (ACE). Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that raises blood pressure. By inhibiting ACE, perindopril lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.

Important Safety Information:

• Arterial hypotension: Taking ACE inhibitors can cause a decrease in blood pressure. This is more likely in patients with pre-existing conditions such as hypovolemia, renal impairment, or those taking diuretics. Close monitoring by a physician is essential during initiation of therapy and dose adjustments.
• Angioedema: Rare but potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and airway. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any swelling.
• Cough: A common side effect of ACE inhibitors. This cough is typically dry and persistent.
• Hyperkalemia: Increased potassium levels in the blood, particularly in patients with renal impairment or those taking other medications that can raise potassium levels.
• Renal impairment: Patients with pre-existing renal impairment require careful dose adjustment and monitoring.
• Pregnancy: Contraindicated during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, discontinue immediately and consult your physician.
