Freika M Infant Hip Abduction Orthosis (Splint) for Hip Dysplasia
Enhanced Description
The Freika M is a specialized pediatric hip abduction orthosis (also known as a splint or pad) designed to provide gentle, effective support for infants with mild hip dysplasia, hip preluxation, or hip subluxation. This orthosis simultaneously flexes and abducts the hips, promoting proper hip joint development.
Indications
- Mild hip dysplasia
- Hip preluxation (predislocation)
- Hip subluxation (partial dislocation)
Contraindications
- Inability to achieve adequate simultaneous hip abduction and flexion.
- Congenital hip dislocation
Potential Complications
Rapid, forceful abduction can, in rare cases, lead to avascular necrosis (avascular necrosis of the femoral head). Proper fitting and gradual adjustment are crucial to minimize this risk.
Instructions for Use
- Suitable for infants aged 1 to 9 months. Size will need to be changed as the child grows.
- Apply over cotton clothing.
- Position the baby’s perineum in the center of the pad.
- Place the legs and lower legs on either side of the pad.
- Secure the orthosis using the adhesive straps around the torso.
- Cross the shoulder straps and fasten with the buckle.
- Allow 1-2 weeks for the infant to adjust to the orthosis.
Size Information
- Size M: 22 cm (8.7 inches) leg spread
