What is Indomethacin Sopharma?
Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides powerful anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain-relieving), and antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances that contribute to inflammation, pain, and fever.
Indomethacin Sopharma is indicated for short-term symptomatic treatment of:
- Acute and chronic pain in inflammatory and degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Inflammation of periarticular tissues (bursitis and/or tendonitis)
- Acute gouty arthritis
Important Considerations:
Do not use Indomethacin Sopharma if you have:
- Hypersensitivity (allergy) to indomethacin or any of the excipients.
- Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs, especially if they have caused asthma attacks, allergic rhinitis, or hives.
- Peptic ulcers of the stomach or duodenum, or a history of ulcers or bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
- Severe heart failure.
- Severe liver or kidney dysfunction.
- Hemorrhoids, anal fistulas or fissures, proctitis, or other diseases of the colon and anus.
- Nasal polyps.
- Children under 14 years old.
- Last trimester of pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Use with caution:
- Indomethacin can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, increasing the risk of complications in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, those over 65, alcohol abusers, and smokers.
- Increased risk of complications also exists in patients taking corticosteroids or anticoagulants.
- Use with caution in patients with gastrointestinal diseases like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
- May increase the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke, especially in high doses or long-term use. Consult your doctor if you have heart problems, have had a stroke, or are at risk.
- Use with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to food and drugs, chronic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, bronchial asthma, kidney disease, mental disorders, depression, epilepsy, or Parkinsonism.
- May cause changes in liver function, requiring periodic monitoring of liver enzymes.
- May cause serious skin reactions; discontinue treatment at the first sign of skin hypersensitivity.
- Use with caution in elderly patients and those taking blood pressure medications or diuretics.
- May mask signs of active inflammation, requiring exclusion of bacterial infection when prescribed.
- Can suppress fertility in women of reproductive age.
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Indomethacin Sopharma.
