Hiploc: Thermoformable Hip Stabilizing Orthosis
Product Description
The Hiploc thermoformable hip stabilizing orthosis is designed for the prevention of hip dislocation following total hip arthroplasty (THA). This innovative orthosis allows for controlled movement within the hip joint, restricting potentially dislocating motions.
Indications for Use
- Hip instability
- Hip stabilization in patients with weakened thigh muscles and a predisposition to dislocation post-THA
- Hip stabilization after dislocation reduction following THA
Product Features
The Hiploc orthosis comprises a unilateral pelvic module (polyethylene), a thigh cuff (polyethylene), and an adjustable aluminum stabilizing bar. A flexible, polyamide-coated strap with markings secures the orthosis at the pelvic level (detailed instructions on the product label).
Adjustable Design
This advanced model features a unilateral pelvic module integrated with a hinge, allowing adjustment of hip flexion and extension angles. The module covers the lateral and posterior (up to the sacral area) aspects of the pelvic ring. The hinge’s position should align with the hip joint. Flexion can be limited to 90°, 60°, or 30°, and extension to 10°.
The thermoformable polyethylene pelvic module allows for a customized fit. The polyethylene thigh cuff, positioned above the knee, articulates with the hip via the hinge, ensuring a snug fit and synchronized movement with the hip.
The adjustable guiding stabilizing bar easily adapts to the patient’s thigh length. Two overlapping metal rods are secured with screws to achieve the optimal length, considering anatomical parameters and medial/lateral tibial movement.
Secure Fixation System
The primarily inelastic fixation strap, containing minimal elastic material, accommodates waists from 80 to 140 cm. The strap’s rear portion is trimmable with scissors. A hook-and-loop fastener secures it to the pelvic module. A wide front hook-and-loop closure provides a secure, anatomical fit for the pelvic module.
The orthosis includes a removable, washable cover for enhanced comfort. The cover houses the pelvic module and secures the fixation strap (front and back), allowing for versatile patient adjustment via strap length and placement. The adjustable guiding stabilizing bar connects the pelvic module and thigh cuff, optimizing cuff height.
Duration of Use
Recommended for 3-6 weeks post-THA while dislocation risk remains. In case of dislocation, continuous wear for 3-6 months post-reduction is advised.
