Description:
Gwaitussin Plus Syrup is a slightly viscous, yellow liquid with a distinctive aromatic odor. This effective expectorant contains 100mg of guaifenesin per 5ml of syrup, helping to thin and loosen mucus for easier expectoration.
Indications for Use:
Gwaitussin Plus Syrup is indicated for the symptomatic relief of acute unproductive cough in respiratory diseases accompanied by the formation of sputum that is difficult to separate.
Dosage and Administration:
Gwaitussin Plus Syrup should be taken after meals. The dosage varies depending on age:
- Adults and children over 12 years: 10-20ml (200-400mg guaifenesin) 3-4 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 1600mg guaifenesin.
- Children 6-12 years: 5-10ml (100-200mg guaifenesin) 3-4 times daily. Maximum daily dose: 800mg guaifenesin.
- Children 2-6 years: 2.5-5ml (50-100mg guaifenesin) every 6-8 hours. Maximum daily dose: 400mg guaifenesin.
Duration of Use:
Use Gwaitussin Plus Syrup for no more than two weeks. If no significant improvement is observed within 3-5 days, consult a doctor.
Important Precautions:
- Consult a doctor before using Gwaitussin Plus Syrup.
- Do not take it with other cold medications.
- Do not use it for persistent cough without a doctor’s prescription.
- Ensure adequate fluid intake during treatment.
- Combine treatment with postural drainage or chest vibration massage.
- If cough persists after 7 days (5 days for children), or if fever, rash, prolonged headache, or sore throat occur alongside the cough, consult your doctor.
- Use with caution in children with persistent or chronic cough due to asthma or increased sputum production.
- The drug may stain urine pink.
- Gwaitussin Plus Syrup is sugar-free and suitable for diabetic patients.
- It contains sorbitol and may cause a mild laxative effect.
- It also contains metabisulfite and may cause allergic reactions in rare cases.
- Consult a doctor before using in individuals with impaired liver or kidney function, children under 6 years, and patients with myasthenia gravis.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to guaifenesin or other ingredients.
- Productive cough with copious sputum.
- Peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum.
- Gastric bleeding (in history).
- Children under 2 years.
Composition:
5ml of syrup contains 100mg guaifenesin as the active ingredient. Excipients include non-crystallizing sorbitol solution, macrogol 400, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, sodium metabisulphite, racemic menthol, racemic camphor, anise oil, glacial acetic acid, complex food additive “Aromatic dye solution “Pineapple color”, and purified water.
Interaction with Other Drugs:
- Combined use with antitussives can hinder sputum removal.
- Compatible with bronchodilators, antimicrobials, and cardiac glycosides.
- Guaifenesin may increase the absorption rate of paracetamol and enhance the effects of sedatives and muscle relaxants.
Storage:
Store in a light-protected place at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
