Tablets are white or white with a yellowish tint, biconvex, capsule-shaped. Dosage and Administration Adults Usually, two tablets are administered daily (usually at night) for three days. It is allowed to enter one tablet at night for six days. Clotrimazole tablets can be used during pregnancy, but under the supervision of a doctor or midwife. Clotrimazole tablets are contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy. During pregnancy, the introduction of vaginal tablets should be carried out without the use of an applicator. It is not known whether clotrimazole is excreted in breast milk. Although clotrimazole is not contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation, the potential risk should be considered when choosing antifungal therapy. Precautions When there are signs of vaginal candidiasis for the first time in life, the patient should consult a doctor. You should also advise the patient to consult a doctor before starting treatment with clotrimazole in the following cases: if during the last six months candidal vaginitis has developed more than twice; the patient or sexual partner has had a sexually transmitted infection in the past; the patient is already pregnant or suspects pregnancy; if the patient is under 16 or over 60 years old; there is hypersensitivity to imidazole or any other antifungal agent. The drug Clotrimazole should not be used and immediately consult a doctor if you have the following symptoms: irregular bleeding from the genital tract or blood staining of the discharge from the vagina; in the vulva, vagina there are ulcers, pustules, blisters; concerned about pain in the lower abdomen, discomfort during urination; against the background of treatment, adverse reactions appeared, such as redness, itching, irritation, swelling in the genital area; fever or chills, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea; there is discharge from the vagina with an unpleasant odor. Patients should be advised to consult their healthcare provider if symptoms of candida infection do not resolve after one week of using clotrimazole vaginal tablets. The course of treatment with clotrimazole can be repeated if, 7 days after the end of the course, signs of candidal infection reappear. If candidiasis recurs more than twice within six months, patients should also consult their doctor. To prevent the spread of urogenital infection, simultaneous treatment of sexual partners is necessary. With simultaneous infection of the labia and adjacent areas (candidiasis vulvitis), topical treatment with a cream with clotrimazole should be additionally carried out. During pregnancy, treatment with vaginal tablets should be carried out without the use of an applicator. In patients with hepatic insufficiency, the functional state of the liver should be periodically monitored. If signs of hypersensitivity or irritation appear, treatment is stopped. If there is no effect within 4 weeks, the diagnosis should be confirmed. Interaction with other drugs Simultaneous treatment with vaginal tablets Clotrimazole and oral tacrolimus (a drug of the group of immunosuppressants) can lead to an increase in the level of tacrolimus in plasma. Thus, patients should carefully monitor their well-being in order to timely detect signs of an overdose of tacrolimus, if necessary, determine the level of this drug in plasma. Laboratory tests have shown that when used together, clotrimazole can damage latex contraceptives. Therefore, the effectiveness of such contraceptives may be reduced. Patients should be advised to use alternative contraceptive measures to prevent unwanted pregnancy for at least five days after using Clotrimazole vaginal tablets. When administered vaginally, clotrimazole reduces the activity of amphotericin B and other polyene antibiotics. With simultaneous use with nystatin, the activity of clotrimazole may decrease. Dexamethasone, used in large quantities, reduces the antifungal effect of clotrimazole. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or to any of the excipients. First trimester of pregnancy. Children’s age up to 16 years. The use of tablets during menstruation should be avoided. Overdose The use of clotrimazole in high doses does not cause any reactions and conditions that are life-threatening. If it is performed, the respiratory tract should be properly protected. Disorders of the reproductive system and mammary glands: peeling, itching in the genital area, rash, swelling, discomfort, burning, irritation, pain in the pelvic area, frequent urination, intercurrent cystitis, burning sensation in the penis in the sexual partner, pain during sexual intercourse act.
