Name:
Betadine supp. 200mg №14
Description:
Vaginal suppositories are torpedo-shaped, homogeneous, dark brown. The main active ingredient Povidone-Iodine Release form supp. vaginal 200 mg: 7 or 14 pcs. Dosage 200mg No. 14 Special Instructions Due to the oxidizing properties of povidone-iodine, its traces can lead to false positive results in some types of tests to detect occult blood in the feces, as well as blood or glucose in the urine. During the use of povidone-iodine, the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland may decrease, which may affect the results of some diagnostic tests (for example, thyroid scintigraphy, protein-bound iodine determination, radioactive iodine measurements), and may also interact with iodine preparations used for the treatment of thyroid diseases. To obtain undistorted results of thyroid scintigraphy after long-term therapy with povidone-iodine, it is recommended to withstand a sufficiently long period of time without this drug. In case of impaired thyroid function, the drug can be used only as directed by a doctor. If symptoms of hyperthyroidism occur during treatment, thyroid function should be checked. It is necessary to monitor the function of the thyroid gland in newborns and breastfed infants whose mothers used Betadine. Caution should be observed with regular use of the drug in patients with previously diagnosed renal insufficiency. Regular use of Betadine vaginal suppositories should be avoided in patients receiving lithium preparations. Coloring on skin and fabrics is easily washed off with water. After contact with the drug, avoid contact with the eyes. Suppositories have a spermicidal effect, and therefore their use is not recommended for persons planning a pregnancy. During the use of suppositories, the use of sanitary pads can be recommended. The use of povidone-iodine is allowed from the neonatal period, but taking into account the form of release – vaginal suppositories – the drug is not recommended for use in girls under the age of 8 years, in the future, care should be taken when administering to virgins. Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms Proper use of the drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms. Pharmacological action Antiseptic and disinfectant. Blocks amino groups of cellular proteins. It has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Active against bacteria (including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus), fungi, viruses, protozoa. Being released from the complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacterial cell proteins, coagulates them and causes the death of microorganisms. It has a rapid bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (with the exception of Mycobacterium tuberculosis). Pharmacokinetics Pharmacokinetics When applied topically, there is almost no absorption of iodine from the mucous membrane. Indications for use – acute or chronic vaginitis (mixed, non-specific infection); – bacterial vaginosis (caused by Gardnerella vaginalis); – candidiasis; – Trichomonas vaginalis infection; – vaginal infections after antibiotic or steroid therapy; – prophylaxis before surgical or diagnostic interventions in the vagina. Dosage and administration It is recommended to moisten the suppository with water and insert it deep into the vagina in the evening before going to bed. In acute vaginitis, 1 suppository is prescribed 1-2 times / day for 7 days. In chronic and subacute vaginitis – 1 suppository 1 time / day at bedtime for 14 days, if necessary – longer. It is also recommended to use sanitary napkins during the course of treatment. Do not stop using suppositories during menstruation. Application during pregnancy and lactationBetadine is not recommended for use from the 3rd month of pregnancy and during lactation. If it is necessary to carry out therapy, the doctor decides on the appointment of the drug individually. Precautions Caution should be observed with regular use of the drug in patients with previously diagnosed renal insufficiency. Interaction with other drugs Betadine is incompatible with other disinfectants and antiseptics, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury. The combined use of povidone iodine and hydrogen peroxide, as well as enzyme preparations containing silver and tauloridine, for the treatment of wounds, as well as antiseptic preparations, leads to a mutual decrease in effectiveness. In the presence of blood, the bactericidal effect may decrease, however, with an increase in the concentration of the solution, the bactericidal activity may be increased. Contraindications – dysfunction of the thyroid gland (nodular colloid goiter, endemic goiter and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism); – adenoma of the thyroid gland; – Duhring’s dermatitis herpetiformis; – simultaneous use of radioactive iodine; – children’s age up to 8 years (see section “Special Instructions”); – hypersensitivity to iodine and other components of the drug. The drug should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding). Composition Povidone-iodine 200 mg, which corresponds to the content of active iodine 18-24 mg. Excipients: macrogol 1000-2800 mg. Overdose For acute iodine intoxication, the following symptoms are characteristic: a metallic taste in the mouth, increased salivation, a burning sensation or pain in the mouth or throat; irritation and swelling of the eyes; skin reactions; gastrointestinal disorders and diarrhea; impaired renal function and anuria; circulatory failure; laryngeal edema with secondary asphyxia, pulmonary edema, metabolic acidosis, hypernatremia. Treatment: Symptomatic and supportive therapy should be carried out with special attention to electrolyte balance, renal and thyroid function. Side effects Local reactions: rarely – itching, hyperemia, hypersensitivity reactions. In rare cases, the use of the drug can cause hypersensitivity reactions, for example, contact dermatitis with the formation of psoriasis-like red small bullous elements. If such phenomena occur, the use of the drug should be discontinued. Prolonged use of povidone-iodine can lead to the absorption of significant amounts of iodine. In some cases, the development of iodine-induced hyperthyroidism has been described, mainly in patients with pre-existing thyroid disease. Storage conditions The drug should be stored in a dry place, out of the reach of children, at a temperature of 5° to 15°C. Shelf life – 5 years.
