Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial action is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, tuberculosis (tested against Mycobacterium terrae), a wide range of viruses (including those responsible for enterovirus infections like polio, Coxsackie viruses, ECHO viruses; hepatitis A, B, and C; HIV; influenza, including avian (A/H5N1) and swine (A/H1N1) flu; parainfluenza; measles; SARS; coronaviruses; other respiratory viruses; herpes, adenoviruses, cytomegaloviruses, and Ebola), pathogenic fungi of the Candida and Trichophyton genera.
