Using the Accu-Chek LinkAssist:
- Preparation: Wash your hands thoroughly. Select an insertion site away from the waistline, bones, scar tissue, navel, and recent injection sites. Prepare the insertion site according to your doctor’s instructions, ensuring it is dry before insertion.
- Device Preparation: Press the grey tension element against the blue base until it clicks into place, pre-tensioning the device.
- Infusion Set Insertion: Hold the infusion set by its blue cap, and insert it into the device’s opening from below until it securely clicks into place. Carefully remove the transparent protective covering from the infusion set by pulling and twisting. Remove both adhesive backing strips from the adhesive base.
- Insertion and Release: Firmly hold the device base with one hand, and press the tension element fully with the other. Position the device against the prepared site and release the safety latch. Press the release button.
- Secure and Prime: Smooth the adhesive base to ensure close skin contact. While holding the adhesive base, gently press the blue cap’s side clips and remove it from the cannula housing.
- Cannula Insertion & Connection: To remove the insertion needle, firmly press the cannula housing against your body. Using the provided handle, remove the insertion needle at a 90-degree angle. Attach the infusion system to the newly inserted cannula head. A click will indicate proper connection. Prime the cannula with a 1-unit bolus of U-100 insulin. Begin infusion using the pump.
