How to Put On Your Stockings:
Manual Application:
- It’s best to put on the stockings in the morning. Ensure your nails are trimmed and rings are removed.
- Sit on a bed or chair with your leg bent at the knee.
- Turn the stocking inside out up to the heel.
- Insert your hand into the stocking, grasp the heel, and turn it right side out up to the heel.
- Insert two thumbs inside, stretching the stocking wide.
- Pull the heel onto your heel and secure it.
- Make a small fold at mid-foot, grasp it firmly, and stretch it up towards the instep, pulling the stocking over your foot and ankle. Smooth any wrinkles.
- Continue pulling the stocking up in sections (approximately 5 cm at a time), smoothing as you go. Check that the heel is correctly positioned.
Using a Donning Aid:
- Place the donning aid on the floor.
- Hold the stocking with the heel facing you.
- Slide the stocking onto the aid up to the heel.
- Insert your foot and position your heel on the floor.
- Pull the aid upwards until the stocking is on your knee.
- Remove the aid.
- Smooth out the stocking.
How to Remove Your Stockings:
- Gently grasp the top of the stocking and roll it down to your knee, then ankle and toe.
- Avoid pulling on the waistband; grasp the knitted fabric.
Important Notes:
- If the stocking isn’t fully stretched, don’t pull it up; lower it and re-stretch in sections.
- It’s advisable to wear gloves when putting on the stockings.
- Do not wear knee-high stockings above the kneecap.
- If using stockings with a silicone band, don’t apply cream or ointment to the area where the band adheres.
- Do not attempt to pull up loose compression areas on tights or men’s compression garments, as this may damage the seams.
- Do not cut the threads or labels.
- Wear the stockings as directed by your doctor. If no specific instructions are given, wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening.
