How to Put On Your Compression Stockings:
By Hand:
- Put them on in the morning. Ensure your nails are trimmed and rings are removed.
- Sit on a bed or chair. Bend your knee.
- Turn the stocking inside out up to the heel.
- Insert your hand to the heel, grasp the heel, and turn it right side out up to the heel.
- Insert two thumbs inside, stretching the stocking wide.
- Pull up the heel and align it with your heel. Step on the heel to secure.
- Make a small fold at mid-foot, grasp it firmly, and pull it up to the instep, stretching it widely while pressing against your heel. Wrap the stretched fabric around your heel and pull it up to your ankle, smoothing it out.
- Continue pulling up the stocking in 5 cm increments, smoothing out wrinkles. Ensure the heel remains correctly positioned.
Using a Donning Aid:
- Place the donning aid on the floor with the curved part facing you.
- Hold the stocking with the heel facing you.
- Pull the stocking onto the aid up to the heel.
- Insert your foot so your foot is flat on the floor.
- Pull the donning aid upward to your knee.
- Remove the donning aid.
- Smooth the stocking onto your leg.
How to Remove Your Compression Stockings:
- Grasp the top of the stocking and gently roll it down to your knee, then to your ankle, and finally to your toes.
- Avoid pulling on the elastic band; grasp the knitted fabric.
Important Notes:
- If the stocking is not fully stretched, lower it and stretch it again in sections, more firmly.
- Use gloves if desired.
- For knee-highs, do not pull them above the kneecap.
- For stockings with a silicone band, do not apply cream or ointment to the area where the silicone band adheres.
- For tights and men’s compression garments, do not pull the compression section if it is not fully stretched; this can damage the seams.
- Do not cut the loose threads or labels to prevent unraveling.
- Wear the stockings as recommended by your doctor. If no recommendation is given, wear them in the morning and remove them in the evening.
